The name of Romeo and Juliet, created as a brand of Habanos in 1875, has its roots in the literary tragedy of the same name of the English writer William Shakespeare.
The brand achieved international renown in the early years of the 20th century, after Don ?? Pepín ?? Rodriguez, outside the first to recognize the importance of the rings as a factor of success.
It is estimated that up to 20,000 different rings were used in the production.
Winston Churchill was one of the most devoted smokers of the Romeo and Juliet brand. Since his visit to Havana in 1946, his name was not only used in rings of Habanos, but he gave name to the best known of the vitolas of the brand: Churchills de Romeo y Julieta.
